Thursday, August 13. Orem, UT — The Mountain View volleyball team opened the 2020 season with a hard-fought 3-1 victory at home against 6A opponent American Fork, 25-27, 25-20, 25-20, 25-23.
Sophomore middle attacker Mia Lee led the way with a career-high 13 kills to go along with a .545 hitting percentage. Senior Allyah Tokelau had 11 kills in her first match as a Bruin. In a 6-2 offense, sophomore setter Kaylin Scott picked up 18 assists while Dres Collings added 14.

After losing a tight first set, the Bruins trailed 18-20 in the second set before a side out sent Collings back to the service line, where she served six straight points to even the match at one set apiece. The senior setter then started the third set the same way, serving Mountain View to a 7-0 lead in a set the Bruins led the whole way. Collings ended the night with a match-high four aces. The fourth set was another back and forth affair with Mountain View pulling out the narrow victory.
With the victory, Mountain View is 1-0 on the season with three more 6A opponents coming up before region matches start in early September. The Bruins next travel to Draper for an away match at Corner Canyon High School on Tuesday, August 18, at 6 pm. The match will be the Chargers’ first of the season.
