Meet Mountain View Boy’s Soccer new head coach Shaun Johnson
Mountain View High School is pleased to announce its new Boy’s Soccer Head Coach Shaun Johnson. Coach Johnson lives within the MVHS boundaries and has been an assistant coach for the program since 2014, serving most recently as the JV Head Coach and a Varsity Assistant. He began coaching soccer in 2009 with various soccer clubs in the Orem area.
Coach Johnson has been married to his wife Annie for 23 years. Together they have four children: Andrew, Benjamin, Hannah and Bella. He is an Active Duty Utah National Guardsmen. He will complete 20 years in the Utah Army National Guard this September. He has served two Combat Tours – Fallujah, Iraq ’03-’04 and Salerno, Afghanistan ’08-’09. He plans to retire from the Army in February 2022. He has studied three foreign languages for the military: Spanish, Thai and Urdu (Pakistan).
He loves traveling with his family. His favorite places to go are the family’s cabin, Disneyland, California Adventure and Universal Studios. He also loves to play Fortnite with his daughter Bella.
He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ecuador. He played soccer for nearly every p-day. His true love of soccer probably developed there. His closest missionary companion was a professional soccer player in Ecuador before a serious automobile accident. He taught Coach Johnson how to do his first rainbow with the soccer ball. “I love soccer. I love coaching soccer. If I am not coaching soccer I am watching soccer. I love teaching young players how to develop as soccer athletes but even more as great young people,” Johnson said.
What he is saying…
He is proud of the size of the program and wants to continue to develop individual players’ skills while helping each player be a part of the team. When asked about his goal for the program in 2021 he said, “Goal for MVHS Men’s Soccer – State Championship – Enough Said.” He is a no-nonsense person who will hold student-athletes to high expectations athletically and academically while providing the support each individual needs to succeed.
A call to action from Coach Johnson:
